Mrs. Harriet J. (Smith) Nunes, of Somerset, died Tuesday, May 3 in Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald F. Nunes. She was born 80 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Byron and Violet (Goslin) Smith. She was educated in Taunton and had been a Somerset resident for the past 50 years. Prior to her retirement, Harriet had been employed as a cafeteria worker for the Somerset School System for over 10 years. She was previously employed at Talbot’s in Lakeville for 13 years, and was formerly employed at Texas Instruments in Attleboro for 24 years. Harriet enjoyed playing bingo, crossword puzzles, traveling with her late husband, and spending time with her family. She attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Taunton.
She leaves: 1 son: Robert J. Nunes of Maine; 2 daughters: Cheryl Aubin and Debra Swauger, both of Somerset; 1 brother: David Smith of Florida; 2 sisters: Charlotte Francis of Portsmouth, R.I. and Florida, and Lillian McLaughlin of Dighton; 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Evelyn Bennett and Marjorie Desrosier, both of Taunton, and Samuel Smith of Georgia.
A Graveside Service will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset, on Saturday, May 28 at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton.
