Obituary

John A. Monty, Jr., 86, of Derry died Monday, May 2, 2016, at Concord Hospital in Concord, NH. He was born in Laconia, NH, on April 30, 1930, a son of the late John and Alice (Rand) Monty. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and, after being honorably discharged, continued his service in the NH Air National Guard, retiring as a chief master sergeant. He served at Grenier Air Force Base and was assistant fire chief at both Pease Air Force Base and Fort Devens. During this time, he also served the town of Derry as a volunteer firefighter and a dispatcher. He enjoyed the outdoors and friends and family, and time spent with his grandchildren was amongst his happiest.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Grace (Kelley) Monty; his son, Gregory Monty, and his wife Susan; his daughter, Janis Monty-Palmer, and her husband Henry; his grandchildren, Logan Magnon, Tara Monty, Caitlin Magnon, and Evan Monty; and his sister, Kay Potfora, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Following cremation, a memorial calling hour will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
