Obituary

Darla “Sue” Hancock, 72, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Irwinville Cemetery in Irwinville, Georgia, with the Rev. Sonny Pate officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday morning, 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Hancock was born October 27, 1943, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Celestine A. and Margaret Louise Daugherty Lamble.  She moved to the community in 1982, after living and traveling in different cities, while her husband served in the United States Army.  Mrs. Hancock wrote three books on genealogy.  She was an avid reader, book collector, antique collector and she also loved goats.  Mrs. Hancock was a member of Conway Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in Ashburn, Colonial Dames 17th Century, Daughters of Indian Wars, Daughters of Union Veterans of Civil War and past president of Daughters of the American Colonists.  She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years:  Johnny Hancock of Irwin County; children:  Jo Ann Jones of Boneville, Joe & Elaine Lutwinski of Eastman, Jaimy & Sarah Hancock of Jasper, Florida , SGM Josh Hancock &  Natasha of Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and Eva & Greg Pharr of Boneville; eight grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and three brothers:  Joe Lamble & Loretta of Riverview, Florida, Tony Lamble & Debbie of Tinley Park, Illinois and Andy Lamble & Christie of Indiana.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Dena Gerkitz , infant brother:  Jeffrey Lamble and two infant sisters;  Dale Lamble and Darlyn Lamble.
