Dr. Lester V. Nickrosz, 79, of Dartmouth passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April 27, 2016. He was the husband of the late Moira (McManus) Nickrosz.
Born in Somerville and raised in Lowell, he was the son of the late Victor and Angeline (Debaiseux) Nickrosz. He attended Keith Academy, Boston University, and Tufts Medical School. Dr. Nickrosz, an accomplished radiologist, practiced at Goddard Memorial Hospital. Upon his retirement, he spent his time between his homes in West Palm Beach, Florida and South Dartmouth.
As a young physician, he offered his service to his country as an Air Force Captain, stationed at Upper Hayford Air Force Base in the UK. It was there that he met Moira, his beloved wife of 45 years. Upon their return from England they married, moved to Boston eventually settling in Brockton and finally South Dartmouth.
A devoted gardener, Dr. Nickrosz spent his free time lovingly tending his gardens that were a source of great joy to him and to those with whom he shared his life.
A consummate host, renaissance man, unflinching friend, and true patriarch, Lester excelled at every endeavor he undertook. He left and indelible impression on everything he did and on all those fortunate enough to have known him in his lifetime.
Dr. Nickrosz was predeceased by his loving wife, Moira, brother Richard, and nephew Joel Nickrosz. He is survived by his devoted companion and friend, Steven Hamel, who was like a son to him, brothers John of Boston and Leonard and his wife Kathleen of Boxborough, sister Rebecca Burke and her husband Dr. William Burke of New Castle, NH, along with many loving nieces and nephews, who benefited greatly from his generosity and love.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday May 9, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Mary's Church Organ Restoration Fund, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth, MA 02748.
