TEWKSBURY - Barbara E. (Tacy) Gifford, age 83, died peacefully at Peregrine Landing Assisted Living community in Tewksbury, on Tuesday, May 3. She was the beloved wife for 55 years, of the late Edward J. Gifford Sr., who died in 2009.
She was born in Groveland, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Lucy May (Robinson) Tacy, had lived in Lawrence and Methuen and had resided in Tewksbury for the last six decades.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at Lowell General Hospital for several years before devoting her career to the wholesale silk flower business, when she successfully founded and operated Gifford Flower Wholesale Distributers based in Tewksbury.
She was a communicant of St. William’s Church.
Barbara and her husband enjoyed boating, and were members of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club in Winthrop.
She is survived by a son, David M. Gifford of Tewksbury; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol A. Gifford of Medford, and Tacy E. Corbett and her husband Thomas of New Boston, NH; and three grandchildren, Thomas, Alannah, and Aidan Corbett; a brother, Robert Tacy of WA; and was predeceased by her son, Edward J. Gifford Jr.
Visiting hours Friday, May 6, from 4 to 7 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her graveside service will be held Saturday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
