Obituary

Dionne, Philip Louie a resident of Avery Crossing, Needham, MA, died May 1 a the age of 90. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire on September 11, 1925 to Alfred and Lydia Dionne, he was the third son in a family of five boys. He worked at J.F. McElwain Shoe, where he met his wife, Rachel M. Denault. He then struck out on his own, creating and running a canvas awning business. He retired at 55, and moved to Port Orange, Florida, where he and his wife spent 30 wonderful years. He helped establish the Port Orange Elks Club, he loved to fix things and putter around the house and he had a great sense of humor. He moved back to New England in 2014 to be closer to family. He enjoyed his last two years at Avery Crossing and made many friends there.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, his wife, a brother George Dionne, and two sons-in-laws: Harold Groden and Robert Porthouse. He is survived by three brothers: Edmund Dionne, Paul Dionne and Maurice Dionne, his sister, Ida Rossignol, two daughters and their families: Ida Burroughs, her children: Serena Boss, Seth Burroughs and his wife Elli Papadopoulos; Claire Groden, her husband Kevin Sheehan, their children, Michael Groden and Mary Mason, Thomas and Kate Groden, Michael and Diana Sheehan, Joseph and Brianna Sheehan ; and great grandchildren Anja, Kelly and Timmy; in-laws: Evangeline Nadeau, Peter Zedalis, Gerard and Patricia Denault, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Needham on Sunday, May 8, from 2 to 6 PM. There will be a memorial service in Nashua at a date yet to be determined, followed by a burial of his ashes in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
