Dave Harper, 83, of Berrien County, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County, with Elder Harold Roberts and Elder Marvin Paulk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary beginning at 1:30 PM.
Mr. Harper was born July 22, 1932, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Wiley & Ava Harper. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a lifelong farmer and lived in the community all of his life. He enjoyed growing corn, peanuts, and pecans and loved to fish. Mr. Harper was named Farmer of the Year in Berrien County and was also honored as a Soil & Water Conservationist. He was a member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Harper of Berrien County; daughter, Regina Griffin and husband Grant of Irwin County; son, Dave Harper, Jr. and wife Paige of Berrien County; grandchildren: Misty & Scott Edwards, Mason & Ashley Griffin, Austin Griffin & Mallory Moore, Kaysie & Michael Tucker, and Haley Harper and her fiancé Jake Relihan; one sister, Druscilla & Harry Hudson of Ocilla; and one brother: Conway & Margie Harper of Douglas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
