Antonio Valdemar “Tony” Cunha, of Hudson, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Tony was born December 2, 1939 in Lisbon, Portugal- one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Tony was the eldest son of the late Antonio F Cunha and Maria (Vieira) Cunha. Tony was born and grew up in the Lapa quarter of Lisbon, enjoying sports and outdoor activities in his youth such as soccer, camping, basketball, fishing, handball and swimming. Tony adored his younger brother, Victor and enjoyed sharing his interests with him.

When Tony moved to America, he worked for his Uncle Ernesto, the original owner of Silva’s Bakery, as a baker. Tony worked for many years for the Hudson DPW, retiring as General Foreman in 2003.Tony was a life member of the Hudson- Concord Elks lodge #959 and a member of St. Michael’s Church. Tony was an avid fan of all New England sports teams and his beloved Sporting Clube de Portugal soccer team.

Tony remained a talented cook throughout his life, a talent he shared with his mother. Tony was happiest sharing time at the table with friends and family with good food, conversation and lots of laugh and smiles. Tony enjoyed music, traveling and a good variety show. The legacy of his love, wit and kindness lives on in all that knew him well. He will always be remembered fondly for his exceptional wit, generosity, kind nature, friendliness and his gift of gab.

Tony is survived by the love of his life and wife of 52 years Irene (Monteiro) Cunha. Tony was a devoted father to his children Joseph Cunha, Tony's Daughter in law Patty Cunha of Hudson, Marianne Massinger and her husband Willi of Bolton, and Anthony Val Cunha of Hudson. Tony’s pride and joy were his seven grandchildren Amber Cunha of Wilton Manors, Florida, , Jason Cunha of Hudson, triplets- Anna, Angie and Amy Massinger of Bolton, and Selena and Ava Cunha of Hudson.

Tony is also survived by his beloved brother Victor Cunha and Sister in Law Loretta Cunha of Hudson along with nephews Jonathan Cunha, David Cunha, Matthew Cunha, niece Tracy Williams, several great nephews and nieces, many cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

Friends and family are invited to join us in a funeral celebration of Tony’s life on Wednesday, May 4th with a funeral mass to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
