Obituary

Debra “Lea” Leopold, 43, a resident of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016. A memorial service will be held at Green Pine Funeral Home, 96281 Green Pine Road, Yulee, Florida on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 6:00 PM. Lea was born August 18, 1972 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Gary and Linda Leopold.  As the daughter of a career naval officer, Lea lived in numerous locations including Idaho, California, Connecticut, South Carolina, Washington,  and Hawaii.  She received her high school diploma in Amarillo, Texas and attended several colleges in Texas and Oregon.  She met and married the love of her life, Samuel Vasquez-Ramos formerly of Oaxaca, Mexico, while living in Portland, Oregon.  They enjoyed 15 joyous years together.  Lea’s career included work as a hospital Administrative Assistant in Portland and as an Assistant Court Clerk with the Nassau County Courthouse in Yulee.  She also enjoyed volunteer work, especially for those organizations that assisted animals, including Nassau County Humane Society and Second Chance giving her an opportunity to express her love of animals.  But most of all, she cherished following in her late mother’s footsteps as the gardener and landscaper for Amelia River Golf Course.  She also enjoyed the great outdoors hiking and camping with her beloved Samuel in the mountains of Oregon.    In addition to her husband, Lea is survived by her father, Gary Leopold and stepmother, Evelyn Leopold of Fernandina Beach; a brother Richard, of Dallas, Texas; a brother Steven, of Ponce Inlet, Florida; her grandmother Yolanda Frazier, of Zephyrhills, Florida; and her three cats Mindy, Scooter and Little Posse.
