Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Jean Sacuto, age 90, passed away peacefully at home with her loving daughters, Lisa Hodson-Walker and Amy Puglisi by her side on April 26, 2016.

Born in Pekin, Illinois, Peggy was the daughter of the late Eugene and Anna Flynn. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Bradley University, Peggy worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in Peoria Illinois. She then moved to Chicago and worked in public relations and fundraising for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation where she met her husband, the late John M. Sacuto. A few years later, after having two daughters, they settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where they spent many years with their family and was an active volunteer for the local schools and community.

As Peggy and John entered into retirement, they spent 12 happy years in Charlottesville, VA, and then Sherborn became their home. After becoming involved in the local COA, Peggy became aware that there was a need for a fundraising organization to support the seniors in town. She spearheaded a group to start the Friends of the Sherborn COA, a nonprofit organization to raise charitable donations to enhance the COA programs and services for Sherborn seniors. In addition, she helped start the Lifetime Learning Series—the COA’s multigenerational classes and lectures. Peggy also volunteered for nine years at the local pre-school, ECDC, reading to the children. It was there that she became affectionately known as “Grandma Peggy” by those around her. In addition to her dedication to professional and volunteer work, Peggy was a loving and devoted mother to her two daughters, and had a love of nature, travel, and dogs.

Margaret is survived by her daughters: Lisa Hodson-Walker and her husband Jonathan of Sherborn, and Amy Puglisi and her husband Thomas of Arlington, VA.; and her grand-children, Annabel, Benjamin, Amelia, and Bradley Hodson-Walker, Mark, Nick, and Brendan Puglisi. She is pre-deceased by her sister Kathleen Hicks of Maryland.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation hours beginning at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 30th and a Funeral Service at 12:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Sherborn. In-lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Friends of the Sherborn COA, 19 Washington Street, Sherborn, MA 01770 in Peggy’s name.
