SOUTHBRIDGE – Louise P. (Grzyb) Kurposka, 99, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in Southbridge Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center after a period of declining health. Her husband of 40 years, Mitchell “Pat” Kurposka, died in 1979.
She leaves a niece, Paula K. Allen and her husband Conrad, and a nephew, Ronald Zmetra and his wife Patricia, all of Dudley; grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Wanda Klin and Stasia Zmetra, by her grandnephew Danny Allen and by her grandniece Cathy Taylor.
She was born and raised in Dudley, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Czerkowicz) Grzyb. She graduated from St. Joseph Elementary School in 1931 and then from Bartlett High School in Webster in 1935. She moved to Southbridge when she married in 1939.
Mrs. Kurposka owned and operated Pat’s Sportswear, a women’s apparel store, for 50 years.
She was a longtime member of the former Saint Hedwig’s Church, now St. John Paul II Parish and a member of its Holy Rosary Sodality. She belonged to the Harrington Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved polka music and polka dancing. She played the violin and saxophone for her family’s “The Grzyb Sisters” orchestra.
The funeral will be held Friday, April 29, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School
St., Webster, with a Mass at noon in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street,Webster. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Friday in the funeral home prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to either St. Joseph School Immediate Needs Fund or to St. Joseph Basilica, both 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570.
