Obituary

WORCESTER-Joseph B. O’Rourke, of 22 Clive Street died Thursday, May 16th at home after an illness. He leaves his wife of 47 years, Marilyn (Casey) O’Rourke; his son, Paul J. O’Rourke of Flint, Michigan; a brother, Gerald V. O’Rourke of Shrewsbury; many nephews and nieces; many grand nephews and nieces; many great grand nephews and nieces. 3 brothers, John, Peter and William O’Rourke and 2 sisters, Alice O’Rourke and Mary Cole predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester, the son of John and Alice (Dorsey) O’Rourke and lived here all of his life. He graduated from St. Peter’s Central Catholic High School and Worcester Junior College and received a bachelor degree from Northeastern University in accounting. Mr. O’Rourke was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran serving in Europe, as a Sargent. He had been the assistant superintendent of finance for the City of Worcester, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, St. Andrew the Apostle Men’s Club, The Knights of Columbus council #88 and a former president of the Retired Greendale Men’s Club. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid gardener

The funeral will be Monday, May 20th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Sunday, May 19th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
