SOMERSET – Joaquim “Jack” F. Alves, age 77 of Somerset, passed away April 25, 2016 peacefully at home. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy Ann (Mello) Alves and the son of the late Manuel S. and Ascencao (Roque) Alves Prior to retiring, Jack worked for many years as a Head Custodian at the Somerset North Elementary School. He was also the previous owner of Alves Bakery on Norfolk St. Fall River.
Jack coached the Senior Div. of the Babe Ruth League from N. Park for 20 yrs. and the CYO League for St. Michaels Church for 5 yrs. He was a Train, WW II Memorabilia, & Antique enthusiast, and an avid Sports & John Wayne Fan.
Survivors include his 4 Sons: Michael Alves of Somerset, Steven Alves (wife Michelle) of Wareham, Jeffrey Alves (wife Catherine) of Fall River, and Gregory Alves (wife Nancy) of Swansea; 8 Grandchildren: Courtney, Jessica, Emily, Jenna, Tyler, Matthew, Deven, and Ty; 1 Great grandson: Jayden; his Brother: Manuel Alves (wife Judy) of Swansea; several nieces & nephews.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River, MA on Saturday, April 30th here at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church, Essex St. Fall River at 9:00 A.M.
