WEBSTER – Louis W. Sroczenski, 96, died Sunday, April 17, at UMass/Memorial Healthcare after a short illness.
He leaves his wife of 74 years, Frances A. (Popiak) Sroczenski; 2 sons, Walter L. Sroczenski and his wife Marie of Webster, and Robert J. Sroczenski of Dudley; 6 grandchildren, Ami Regal, Louis Christopher, Rod, Lee and Keith Sroczenski; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Sroczenski of Dudley; a sister, Cyrilla “Lil” Sroka of Florida; many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Webster, a son of Walter and Mary (Bonczek) Sroczenski and was a lifelong resident. He attended Bartlett High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a private first class. He saw action in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and in Central Europe. He was a life member of the VFW.
Mr. Sroczenski owned and operated Hub Furniture in Webster and then Horton Furniture in Dudley.
He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica and chaired the advance fund raising program when the church was being renovated in the 1990’s. He was a member and past president of the Webster-Dudley Oxford Chamber of Commerce. As a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Webster First Federal Credit Union, he was named Chairman of the Board twice; he also served on the bank’s credit committee for 25 years. He belonged to the former Webster-Dudley Rotary Club for many years. He enjoyed traveling.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors at the cemetery. There are no calling hours.
