Ruma (Roy) Roy, age 46, of Plainville, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was the beloved wife of Soumya Roy, to whom she was wed on January 16, 1992.
Born in Calcutta, India on June 27, 1969, she was a loving daughter of Ajay K. Roy and Banani (Chanda) Roy of Patna, India.
Ruma grew up and was educated in India. She received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics at the Patna Women’s College in India.
Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to the United States, where they first settled in State College, PA. They later lived in Nebraska and Minnesota, and for the past 10 years in Plainville.
Ruma later returned to college and studied at the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island. For the past year she was the proud owner of Berry Frozen Yogurt and Smoothies in Norton and had previously worked as an arts & crafts instructor.
Ruma was a devotee of Lord Krishna. Her favorite times spent were those in the company of her adoring family. Ruma enjoyed gardening, music, singing, cooking and most of all, arts & crafts.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her devoted son Surjyo Roy of Plainville. She was the dear sister of Soma Basu of Mumbai, India, Swagata Mitra of Patna, India and Suborna Roy of London, England. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive her.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Hindu ceremony, to be held on Thursday, April 28th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Cremation will follow at the North Purchase Crematory in Attleboro.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Thursday morning beginning at 9:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
