Obituary

SOUTHAMPTON – Henry E. “Hank” Touchette, 80, of Southampton, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 23, 2016 surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born at home on Rolf Avenue in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on Memorial Day, May 30, 1935, a beloved son of the late Frederic and Rose Anna (Guillotte) Touchette. He was raised in Aldenville and attended Saint Joan of Arc School. In 1950, Hank and his dad, Fred, built the family farmhouse and founded Pine Hill Farm in Southampton. Hank owned and operated the largest independent egg producing farm in Massachusetts during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Hank served on the board of the Western Mass Dairy Goat Association and also raised a championship winning herd of Saanen dairy goats. He acted as a judge at many goat competitions at regional fairs and livestock shows. He enjoyed “winding down” by working his farm’s hilly terrain with his Ford tractors. Henry also worked for 21 years at the Savage Arms Company in Westfield and retired in 1985. He also supported his late wife, Cathy, in her position as a Volunteer Coordinator with the Hampden County United Way. They spent time traveling together throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada to see the countryside. As a great fan of the “golden age” of country and western music, Henry maintained a very large vinyl music collection and for nearly half a century also enjoyed seeing many of his favorites performing live on stage at Mountain Park, Riverside Park, Hunter Mountain and other regional venues. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and later a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church in Easthampton. During recent years, unable to attend Mass because of health issues, he supported his faith by watching morning and Sunday Mass on television. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Catherine A. “Cathy” (Constantine) Touchette who was Called Home on April 12, 1998. They were married on August 9, 1958 at the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett and were blessed with over 39 years of happiness together. He leaves his six loving children, George R. Touchette and his wife, Susan, of Dayton, OH, Virginia A. Schwarzenbach and her husband, Robert, of Southwick, Charlie T. Touchette and his former wife, Marcia, Martin J. Touchette and his wife, Julianne, Lisa R. LaBombard and her former husband, Richard, and Andrew R.
