Charles R. Conant, III, 71 of Hanson, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (Lavelle) Conant.
He was born in Brockton, brought up in Whitman, a son of the late Charles R. Jr. and Mary (Keveney) Conant and a graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School, Class of 1963 and Nichols College, Class of 1971. In his younger years he was known to his close family and friend as “Sandy”.
Charles served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1963-1967. He was an accountant for the National Credit Union Administration and had retired after 30 years.
He took pride in his home and his family, also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and cooking.
In addition to his wife Ellen, he is survived by his children, Kathryn Geagan and her husband Erik of Hanson, Dr. Alene Conant and her husband John Drewniak of Norwell, Charles R. Conant, IV and his wife Meredith of Norton, beloved “Boppy” to Madeline & Owen Geagan, Reed & Hadley Conant, brother of Peter Conant and his wife Marlene of NH, Paul Conant of Boxborough, John Conant and his wife Cindy of East Longmeadow, Mark Conant and his wife Catherine of West Barnstable, Patrick Conant and his wife Margaret of Plymouth and the late Jane Bates: also his in-laws, Patrick Lavelle, James and MaryJo (Lavelle) Kelly, Richard and Ann (Lavelle) Powell, Dr. Harold and Kathleen (Lavelle) Nelson, Susan Lavelle and the late John Lavelle all of PA. also many nieces and nephews.
His funeral services will be held on Thursday April 28th at 10:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Hanson. Burial will follow in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 27th from 4:00-8:00 PM.
