Obituary

Joseph (Joe) Lawrence Abcunas, 84, of 24 Belleau Rd, Salem, MA, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his children and grandchildren on Sunday, April 17, 2016.

Joseph was born in Lynn, MA and later moved to Salem MA to raise his family. He was the youngest of 10 children, a devoted husband to his deceased wife, Judith, a loving, caring father and grandfather to his three children and six grandchildren. He graduated from Lynn Classical High School, and later went on to graduate from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in 1953.

Joe started working at Pickering Oil in Salem, where he met his wife, Judy of 31 years. He continued to follow the company through multiple mergers and finally retired after 40 years of service at Cargill Incorporated.

He enjoyed taking walks with the dogs in the Salem area and doing puzzles all day to keep his mind sharp. He was a humble, intelligent, sharp witted man who enjoyed eating at the local eateries, the next Robert Parker book and his favorite Steve Tyrell CDs.

He is survived by his two brothers, Alexander Abcunas, of Lowell, MA, John Abcunas, of Lynn, MA; his three children, Wendy Nugent, of New Port Ritchey, FL, Leslie Abcunas, of Salem, MA, and James Abcunas, Copperas Cove, TX; and six grandchildren, Christopher Carpenter, Christopher Rougier, Jacquelyn Rougier, Taylor Muniz, Addison Abcunas and Elijah Joseph Abcunas. Joseph L. Abcunas is preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Lessor) his parents Ignas and Rose (Palozey) Abcunas, his siblings, Peter, Theresa (Hoy), Julius, Stanley, Rose (Quinn), James, and Veronica (Ierardi).
