Obituary

A. Scott Deering, 72, of North Truro peacefully passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at EPOCH Senior Healthcare in Brewster with his daughter at his side.

Born and raised in Medfield MA, he was the son of the late Clyde O. and Ann (Crosby) Deering. He attended Medfield Elementary school and graduated Newton High School in the class of 1961, after which he earned his BA from Fitchburg State College.

Mr. Deering, fondly referred to as Mr. 'D', taught Industrial Arts at Provincetown High School for 20 years. He was highly regarded by his students, many of whom entered the building trades because of his guidance and coaching. Upon retirement from his teaching career he worked at Conwell Lumber, Joe and Sons Appliance and until 2009, was a mechanic for the Cape Cod National Seashore. Throughout his 47 years on Cape Cod, he also built and repaired numerous homes in the Truro-Provincetown area.

Scott was a classic auto and motorcycle enthusiast, having owned several of each over the years. He could often be found in his garage tinkering with cars, boats and machinery of all kinds. Known for his affinity for complex problem solving and never one to turn down a challenge, Scott spent many hours helping friends and family with various 'projects' from the broken lawn mower to the collapsing building, he often had the solution. Scott was also an avid reader, he especially enjoyed classic comics and his daily newspapers.

Scott is survived by his former wife, Candice Collins-Boden and their children, Lee Scott Deering and Stacy L. Deering, both of North Truro, as well as their grandchildren: Zachary, Bennett and Savanna Deering of North Truro and Candice McGaugh of Dennisport. He was predeceased in 2002 by his girlfriend of seventeen years, Janice Carbone.

At his request, services are private. A Celebration of his Life will be at a date and time to be announced.

If desired, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Truro Rescue Squad, PO Box 2013, Truro, MA 02666, or the VNA of Cape Cod - Hospice, 434 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.
