Obituary

Leo O Denoncourt, age 86, passed away on April 18, 2016 at Wingate of West Springfield. He was born on Nov. 27, 1929 in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Henry and Lena (Fredette) Denoncourt. Leo worked as a machinist for the Westvaco Co, formerly U.S. Envelope, for over 34 years, retiring in 1992. Leo was a Communicant of the former Assumption Parish. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the 1st Armored Tank Division in the Korean War. While he enjoyed fishing, golfing and working outdoors, his true love was bowling. Leo was well known and loved throughout the bowling community. An ambassador of the sport, he was always willing to share his tips and experience with anyone who asked for help. At age 75, Leo reached his lifetime goal of bowling a prefect 300 game and continued to bowl in his league until he was 85.He leaves his son, Paul Denoncourt and his wife Pam of West Springfield and a daughter, Ann Salva and her husband, Dr. Paul Salva of Somers, CT and 5 grandchildren, Joanna Salva, Jeffrey Denoncourt, Michael Salva, Daniel Salva and Tyler Denoncourt. He also leaves his sisters Rita Archambault of Longmeadow and Lucille Page and her husband Tom of Chicopee. Leo is predeceased by 4 brothers, Armand, Roland, George and Raymond Denoncourt, and a sister, Florence Lagasse. Leo also leaves his sisters in law, Jeannette Denoncourt, Shirley Denoncourt and Florence Dzialo, brothers in law and close friends Gary Donahue and Frank Dzialo, his Godchild Ellen Donahue and his close nephew Christopher Donahue along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Leo’s family would also like to give special thanks to his caregivers Rex, Darla, and Griselle and to the Staff at Mercy Adult Day Health of Westfield. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday Apr 22, 2016 at 10:00 am from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee with a Mass of Christian Liturgy to begin at 11:00 am at Holy Name Parish in the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Thurs Apr 21, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
