Naomi Irene Crum Rabun (Nanny), born December 8, 1925 to Benjamin and Eva Crum in Omega, GA entered into rest after a brief illness April 16, 2016 surrounded by family and friends at her home in Augusta, GA. She was married to F. Truitt Rabun (deceased) in Augusta, GA in 1946.
She is survived by their children F. Truitt Rabun, Jr. (Marsha), Hilton Head Island, SC, Rebecca Rabun Goodrich (Greg), Hilton Head Island, SC, Elizabeth L. Nason (Tuck), Ft. Myers, FL, and R. Douglas Rabun, Columbia, SC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachel Hannum (Chip), Sara Clark (Chris), Jeremy Ferguson (Morgan Marcum), Grant Goodrich (Mandy), Kari Miller (Mike), Tyler Goodrich, Sam Dowdney (Katherine), Matthew Dowdney, Jill Luginsland (Brian) and Rebecca Finkelman (Michael). Also, great-grandchildren Julia Hannum, Dylan Hannum, Truitt Clark, Miles Clark, Gavin Goodrich, Nate Goodrich, Mack Miller, Aubree Goodrich, Hart Goodrich, Margot Dowdney, Emerson Dowdney, and Jacob Luginsland; along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.
She has been welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven by her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and by her husband, parents and seven siblings Frank, Ralph, Lois, Bernice, Velma, Hazel and Jenny.
A Registered Nurse (RN), Naomi graduated in 1946 from the University Hospital Barrett School of Nursing through the US Army Cadet Corp. She was a RN for fifty years in private and public practice, retiring from the VA Hospital Forest Hills. She was a devoted member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, committed to St. Clare’s Guild and the Alter Guild. She was an active member and past-officer in both the University Hospital Nursing Alumnae supporting the founding of the Nursing Alumnae Endowment to fund scholarships for nursing students, and the Pilots Club of North Augusta. Naomi leaves many close church, professional and community friends.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her home was always filled with love, laughter and the best Southern cuisine this side of Omega, GA. She was an avid flower gardener, baker and put-up fine fruit preserves. She was so looking forward to this coming strawberry season. Her family was the center of her life.
Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 24, 2016 at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 3321 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA. The Rev. Dr. Joe Bowden officiating. Interment next to her beloved husband in the church memorial gardens and reception at the church follow immediately.
In her last days Naomi received exemplary and loving care from the University Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute, Harrington Park Health & Rehabilitation, SouthEast Hospice, and Welcome to Our Family caregivers. Naomi’s family would like to express many thanks to these medical professionals and caregivers and the many friends and family members who provided support and comfort during Naomi’s passing.
