Obituary

Holden - Doris E. (Nelson) Carlson, 82, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, in the Coleman House of Northborough after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Stanley D. Carlson, and her son, Steven P. Carlson. She leaves a son, Donald C. Carlson, of Bay Point, Florida; a sister, Jean Christian, of New Ipswich, New Hampshire; and nephews and nieces.

Born in Boston, daughter of Walter and Ellen (Johnson) Nelson, she lived in Holden from 1955 to 2006. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1952. She graduated from The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She was a registered nurse for over 40 years having worked in Worcester at Memorial Hospital and then for the private medical practices of Dr. Saul Dopkeen, pediatrician, and Dr. Edward Driscoll, general practitioner, retiring in 1995. During retirement, she kept her nurse's license active and volunteered in the maternity ward at Memorial Hospital in Worcester.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden since 1965, where she was a Sunday school teacher for several years.

The funeral service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury St. on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, MA/NH Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
