Cortez Brown Childs, 96, of Moultrie passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Pruitt Magnolia in Moultrie. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Hugh Thompson officiating. Mrs. Childs will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Trent Wilson, Garrett McBride, Jimmy Brown and Monty Brown will serve as pallbearers.
Born August 27, 1919 in Turner County, Mrs. Childs was the daughter of the late Eddie B. Brown and Dee Yarbrough Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Childs, who she met in the 1940s in Tift County and they were married on July 2, 1949; three brothers; and a sister. She attended Turner County schools and was retired from Sam Neal’s Shoes. She joined Tifton Primitive Baptist Church and was a member of the Ladies Circle and helped with all youth activities and was happiest in her service to the Lord. Moving to Moultrie in the 1980s, she joined Memorial Baptist Church, where she was an active member of her Sunday school ladies group, helping with all church activities. Mrs. Childs was a living witness to others of her faith in the Lord and especially a wonderful example to her family. She was such a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Childs loved to grow plants and being in her yard and was a fabulous cook and loved sharing her labors of love constantly with her family.
Mrs. Childs is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Silas Wilson, Jr. of Moultrie; a sister-in-law, Kathy Brown; two grandchildren and their spouses, Trent and Maggie Wilson and Leanna and Mike Williams; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Marie Wilson, Marley Jo Wilson, Britton Lee Williams and Brenna Grace Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
