Obituary

Edith Louise Hargadon Cannon 85, of Louisville, was called home by our Heavenly Father on April 15, 2016.
Louise was born January 28, 1931 in Louisville KY to Joseph Paul and Edith Bessie Hargadon. Her father worked for Reynolds Metal and was relocated several times across many states. Louise fell in love with her childhood sweetheart Elmer Cannon at St. Benedict Elementary School. But despite the distance they were apart, Elmer traveled the miles staying in YMCA’s to be with her. They were married December 17, 1949 in Hackensack, NJ. So many stories about the Garden Apartments and the great friends they found there were often shared with us.
Louise worked at Packard Bamberger grocery store in New Jersey as a cashier for many years. Louise and Elmer had the first three of their six children while living in New Jersey. They moved to Louisville KY in 1958 and purchased a house in Valley Downs. Through the years, Louise held things together on Count Turf taking care of all the kids on the street as her own. Our house was the gathering place for The Real housewives.
Louise was a devoted Catholic and spent her week days giving back to the church by working in the school cafeteria at St. Clement for many of years. Her interests were gardening, sewing, crafts, and traveling in the RV but most of all, our family gatherings. She loved her family and was proud to call each one of us hers.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Paul and Edith Bessie Hargadon, sister Patsy Ablett, brother Michael Hargadon, her beloved husband of 59 years Elmer Lee Cannon, her only son Steven Lee Cannon Sr., and grandson Brad Amos Autry. She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Darnell (Wayne), Diane Jernigan (Bill), Kathleen Cannon, Suzanne Cannon (Tommy) and Sandra Baker (Mark), 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; sister Delores Hayden, and brother David Hargadon (Midori).
The funeral service will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 5431 Johnsontown Rd, on Tuesday at 11 AM. Visitations will be held 1 – 8 p.m. Monday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway. Private interment will be held at Bethany Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The Alzheimer’s Association. The family of Edith Louise Hargadon Cannon wishes to thank all the caregivers that helped take care of our mother.
