Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Mary E. (Maroney) Doyle, 84, a lifelong resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, April 15, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Hungry Hill in Springfield on July 10, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Dennis J. Maroney and Mae E. (Burns) Maroney. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and lived her entire life in the home she was born. She was employed for many years as an Audit Clerk for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Revenue in Springfield. Proud of her Irish Heritage, Mary was a member of the Hungry Hill Center. Until the closing of her beloved parish, Mary was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church where she was a member of their Women’s Guild. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and a member of the Sacred Heart Over 60 Club. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Raymond J. Doyle. They were married on September 17, 1960 at Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with only 11 years of happiness together. She leaves her devoted children, Maureen T. Doyle and Thomas M. Doyle, both of Springfield with whom she lived and Cathleen A. Mariani and her husband, Michael, of Feeding Hills; her two cherished grandsons whom she adored, Michael J. Mariani, Jr. and Matthew P. Mariani, both of Feeding Hills; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Doyle and Maroney families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Donald Maroney. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01101. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Thomas J. O’Connor Foundation, 627 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
