Geraldine (Mello) Silvia, age 87, of Fall River, passed away on April 15, 2016. She was the loving wife of Roland Silvia and the daughter of the late Antone and Dialina (Medeiros) Mello. She was a sewing machine operator for various mills in Fall River and a member of the Amalgamated Garment Workers Union. Geraldine also enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Doreen Soares, and her husband Stephen; her grandchildren, Bethany Whinnem and her husband Reade, Matthew Soares, and Amanda Soares; two great grandchildren, Charles and Amelia Whinnem; brother, Walter Mello and his wife Lorraine; sister, Patricia Orabona; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Somerset Ridge Nursing Home for their compassionate care and support shown to Geraldine and her family.
Her funeral will start from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Tuesday here at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard’s Church, Assonet at 10:30 A.M. It will be a private interment. Calling hours will be on Monday from 5-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Somerset Ridge Activities Department 455 Brayton Ave, Somerset, MA, 02726.
