Joseph T. "Jopa" Fitzpatrick, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 76 years old.
Jopa was born in Boston on September 13, 1939, a son of the late Edward Fitzpatrick and Helen (Manning) Fitzpatrick. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. Jopa worked as a shipper for Irving Levitt Meat Shipping Company for over 25 years before opening and operating Jopa's Pizza at the corner of Bunker Hill Street and Concord Street in Charlestown along with his wife Margie for over 17 years. He also worked for Diversified Company as a car transporter for several years. Jopa enjoyed working out at the gym as often as he could along with playing racquetball at the Charlestown courts. He enjoyed those special hunting trips with his sons and nephews and going to the beach. Most of all, Jopa enjoyed the special times with his grandchildren and Dunkin Donuts with the girls.
Jopa is the beloved husband of the late Margaret "Margie" (Upton) Fitzpatrick. He is the devoted father of Joseph J. Fitzpatrick and his wife Jean, Daniel Fitzpatrick and his wife Pam, Dana R. Fitzpatrick and the late Dawn M. Ferreira. He is the loving grandfather to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Marion Hughes, Robert Fitzpatrick and the late Dorothy Pratt, Betty Gorsuch, Anne Fitzpatrick, Helen Geno, William Fitzpatrick, Edward Fitzpatrick, John Fitzpatrick, Warren Fitzpatrick, Gerald Fitzpatrick, Francis Fitzpatrick and Paul Fitzpatrick. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jopa's Funeral on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
