Obituary

George F. Dean, 81, of Westport died peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Rosinha) Dean.
Born in Westport, son of the late George F. and Ethel A. (Wood) Dean, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. He was appointed fire chief for the Town of Westport in 1972 and served as chief until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Dean was a founding member of the Westport Permanent Firefighters Local 1802 and instrumental in the transfer of the ambulance from the police department to the fire department in 1974. He was also a founding member of the Greater Fall River Emergency Medical Service, which united the towns in Bristol County for medical response. A life member of the Westport Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of the New England Association of Fire Chiefs, New England Division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts and Bristol County Fire Chiefs Association. He was a Past Master of the Noquochoke A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. Mr. Dean enjoyed life in Westport, especially town politics, where is served on the Westport Finance Committee for many years.
Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: George F. "Skip" Dean and his wife Kelly of Westport and Alan M. Dean and his wife Kimberly of Westport; 2 daughters: Jody A. Cote and her husband David of Westport and Lori A. Wukawitz and her husband Mark of Coon Rapids, MN; 5 grandchildren: Jacob, Khoryn, Grant, Chapin and Emma; and several nieces and nephews. His loving heart also reached out to many in his extended family, especially Amy Miguel. He was loving uncle to Sean and Julie Sullivan and Lisa and Manny Diaz and brother of the late Beryl Sullivan.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Thursday 5 - 8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
