Rachel Helena (Demers) Landry, 93, of New Bedford died Monday, April 11, at The Oaks surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. She was the wife of the late Roger George Landry, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
She was the daughter of the late Arthur Ovila Demers and Bernadette (Parent) Demers and spent all of her life in New Bedford. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church and a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon Campbell Business School.
During the war she was the Secretary to the Commander of the USO in Buzzards Bay and served as a Legal Secretary. She was also Head of the Art Room at the New Bedford Free Public Library until the birth of her daughter.
She cherished spending time with her family and friends and was a member of the New Bedford Catholic Woman's Club and St. Joseph Couples Club.
She is survived by her daughter Denise Landry-Horowitz and her husband Phillip E. Horowitz of Holliston, MA and her son Marc D. Landry and his wife Virginia (Healey) Landry of Belchertown, MA. She was the loving grandmother of Ariel Allison Horowitz of San Diego, CA, Matthew Morris Horowitz of Holliston, MA and Petty Officer 2nd Class Bradford Kyle Landry and his wife Meaghan (Carmichael) Landry of Kittery, ME. She is also survived by her beloved cousin Dorothy Macdonald of Scituate, MA.
She was the sister of the late Cecile Therese Demers.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, April 16th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church at 10 AM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, April 15th from 5-8 PM.
