Obituary

Edith K. (Adcock) Jordan, 57, of New Bedford died Monday July 4, 2005 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Sylvester R. Jordan, Jr.

Born in Robertson County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Freeman and Dorothy (Dillard) Adcock, she lived in New Bedford area for the past 30 years.

She was an active member of the North Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jordan was formerly employed as a children's librarian at the North Dartmouth Library until her retirement in 2003 due to her illness. She had previously worked at CVS Pharmacy in the Dartmouth Mall.

She was a 1966 graduate of Springfield High School and a 1970 graduate of Austin Peay State University. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and especially her loving grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, and Cheyanne.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carol A. Gorman and her husband Chris of Fall River; a son, William R. Jordan and his wife Rosa of New Bedford; a sister Elaine Mink of Greenbriar, Tennessee; her sister-in-law, Frances Adcock of Springfield, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Nicholas Jordan, Jacob Gorman, and Cheyanne Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Wendall Adcock and Ralph Adcock.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday July 7, 2005 at 8:30 AM in the North Baptist Church, County and Merrimac Sts., New Bedford. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Wednesday July 6, 2005 from 4-8 PM.
