Richard L. Wells, 66 Dateline: Mattapoisett, MA Richard L. Wells, age 66, of Mattapoisett, formerly of Walpole and Dedham, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Janet L. (Ratigan) Wells, to whom he was wed on July 28, 1974. Born in Boston, MA on October 15, 1949, he was the loving son of the late Norman Wells and Berna (Nelson) Stumvoll. Rich grew up in Dedham and was a 1967 graduate of Dedham High School. He continued his education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from Boston University and a master’s degree in education form Suffolk University. Mr. wells recently retired following a 23-year career as a Director of Global Services at EMC in Hopkinton. He made his permanent home in Mattapoisett for the past 2 ½ years following 30 wonderful summers spent there with his cherished family. In addition to living in Walpole and Dedham, he had also resided in Oregon and in Mendon. Family was the essence of Richard’s life. He will always be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor and the friendships he built that lasted a lifetime. Rich was an avid golfer and also enjoyed reading. He loved being outdoors near the beauty of the ocean, which included fishing and boating. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children Michael W. Wells and his wife Alison of Attleboro and Megan W. Ross and her husband Alexander of Phoenix, Arizona. He was the dear brother of Ellen Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, the adoring grandfather of Lucille and Vivian Wells and William, Jack and Adeline Ross, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a service in celebration of Richard’s life on Saturday, July 16th from 11:00 A.M. till 2:00 P.M. at the Rosebrook Event Center at the Wareham TownePlace Suites by Marriott, 50 Rosebrook Place, Wareham. In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
