CHAMPION - Clarice L. Champion, 83, of Fernandina Beach passed away Friday, April 8, 2016.
She was born July 6, 1932 in Patterson, GA, the daughter of Alexander and Susie Griner Lee and moved to Fernandina Beach 65 years ago.
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church and was well known for her pie baking skills in the community. Her pecan pie is said by many to be the better they ever tasted. She retired from the Nassau County School Board. She worked in school cafeterias for many years.
Mrs. Champion was predeceased by her parents and a daughter, Marie Evans.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Walter L. Champion; sons, Jimmy Hickox and Dennis "Buddy" Champion; daughters, Margie Hatton (Jerry), Melba Hickox and Susan McCarthy (Brian); 13 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren and her faithful dog, Midnight.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Bible Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach with Pastor Mark Stalnaker officiating. Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery.
The family will receive guests from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the church.
