Michael E. Askeland, 64, of S. Dartmouth died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at home. He was the husband of Mary C. (Shaffer) Askeland.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Alf M. and Annette (Mikelson) Askeland, he was raised in Fairhaven and had lived in Westport until moving to Dartmouth in 1989. He was a member of the Calvary Bible Church, Westport. Mr. Askeland was a commercial fisherman on various boats in the New Bedford and Fairhaven area. He had also worked in contractor sales at Somerville Lumber in W. Bridgewater and at other lumber yards. Regarded as a handy man, he also enjoyed the ocean, but most of all he loved music, especially playing his guitar. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: Casey E. Askeland and his wife Rebecca of Waltham and Michael A. Askeland and his wife Priscilla of Dartmouth; a daughter: Pensiri T. Schwimmer and her husband Jonathan of Thailand; a sister: Judith Askeland of Newark, NJ; 2 grandchildren: Noah and AJ; a niece: Jenner Crespo and her husband Luis; 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Calvary Bible Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
