George E. Knight, age 79, of Mansfield, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Sturdy memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
He was the beloved husband of Ruth E. (Muckey) Knight, to whom he was wed for the past 18 years and the late Yvette E. (LaFlash) Knight who died on September 16, 1993.
Born in Pomfret, CT on October 31, 1936, he was a loving son of the late Carl and Susie May (Frail) Knight. He grew up in Woonsocket and was educated in Woonsocket parochial schools.
A longtime resident of Mansfield Mr. Knight was a retired Supervisor, having worked for 14 years at Motors, Hoists & Controls in Woonsocket. He had previously been employed for 12 years at Pawtucket Electric in Pawtucket and for 32 years at Electric Maintenance in Woonsocket.
George was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and loved spending time in the presence of his adoring family. George’s hobbies included feeding and admiring the birds that’s that visited his yard, camping, traveling, cruises, gardening and was known as a man who could fix just about anything.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children Carol A. Seymour of Pawtucket, Dianna J. Ferdinando of Derry, NH, Sandra A. Knight of North Attleboro, Donna L. Emerson of Attleboro, Gail M. Knight of Pawtucket and the late Alan A. Knight. He was the dear brother of Theresa Cabana of Florida, and is also survived by his cherished 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, as well as his 8 step- children.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 12th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St., (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in east Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 11th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
