Obituary

Methuen – Charles J. Daley, 92 of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Nevins Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Methuen. He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Campbell) Daley.

Born in Lawrence on June 7, 1923, he was the son of John A. and Grace (Devlin) Daley. He attended Lawrence schools and graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1941. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, where he served as a radio operator gunner on a B-17. While on a mission over Northern Germany, his plane was shot down in April, 1945 but fortunately, the plane was able to land in Sweden, where he was interned until the end of the war.

After the war, he graduated cum laude with his BSBA from Boston College in 1951. While attending day classes at Boston College, he worked nights as a fireman on the Lawrence Fire Department. He married his wife, Eleanor, in 1950. She passed away in 2007.

He spent more than 30 years working as a manager in the Audit Division of the Internal Revenue Service in Boston, MA. Following his retirement, he worked part time for many years for Mawn and Mawn PC in Woburn, which he enjoyed immensely.

Charles will be deeply missed by his daughter, Susan E. Daley and her long-time companion, Paul Lyon. He was predeceased in 2004 by his two sisters, Claire Sullivan and Grace Pothier.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Charles’s life by gathering for calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 11 – 12:30 PM. His Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 PM on Saturday at St. Monica’s Church in Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.

The family would like to give sincere thanks to the employees of Ashland Farm at North Andover and the employees of Nevins Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre for their kindness and compassionate care.
