Obituary

Richard A. Lopes, 64, of Providence, RI died April 5, 2016 at Miriam Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late William J. and Emilia L. "Millie" (Morris) Lopes, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Providence 5 years ago.
He was formerly employed as a foreman with Wellington Design & Construction Company in Boston.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include 2 brothers, David Lopes and his wife Darcel of Boston and William "Billy" Lopes, Jr. and his wife Billie of Maryland; his special cousin who was like a sister, Darlene Andrade; his nieces and nephews, Jelani Lopes, Kai Lopes-Stowell, Opal Patterson, Jemarc Lopes, Ché Lopes, Brent Lopes, Halim Lopes and Nikko Lopes; 2 Godchildren, Marshall Williams and Kerry Gonsalves; and a host of cousins.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, April 8th from 4-8 PM.
