DOUGLASS, Catherine M. (Flanagan), of Winthrop, passed away on April 4, 2016 at the age of 97. Catherine was born to Irish immigrant parents Delia and Nicholas Flanagan in East Boston. She grew up with three siblings, the late Alice Fitzpatrick, late Beatrice Flanagan, and late Joseph Flanagan. She led a long happy life with her late husband, John J. Douglass in Winthrop, MA, where they raised their four children. They enjoyed traveling, long scenic drives, sharing a hot dog and coffee at Kelly’s, and watching the sunrise from their front porch. Catherine was a devout Catholic and spent much of her life active in the Church community. Her strong faith helped her find peace and purpose during her final years. She leaves behind her loving children, Bob & Donna Douglass of Burlington, Jack & Cheryl Douglass of Newfields, NH, Jayne & Paul Cleary of Winthrop, and the late Karen Douglass of Winthrop, beloved grandchildren Kara & Colleen Douglass, Kathryne & Jacquelyn Cleary, and Shanon & John Douglass, honorary grandmother to Jennifer & John Kane & their daughter Alice and many nieces and nephews. Catherine will be remembered for her incredible stamina and strength, caring and mothering persona, and her lifelong devotion and love for her family. She will be greatly missed. Visiting hours for family and friends in honor of Catherine’s life will be held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. WINTHROP, on Mon, April 11, from 8-930am. A Funeral Mass will follow in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section).
