Obituary

William Earl Townsend ALEXANDRIA --William “Bill” Townsend, aged 88, transitioned to his heavenly home on April 5th, 2016 after a brief battle with pneumonia. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. An avid fisherman, woodworker, gardener and prankster. Bill was retired from Delco Remy, and was a past master of Solar – now Fellowship Masonic Lodge and Chapter #154, O.E.S. He had belonged to the Alexandria First United Methodist Church and served in several positions over the years. Bill was blessed with two families in his life. After his first wife, Barbara, passed away after 35 years of marriage, Bill met and married Donna (Morgan), who survives him, and they were blessed with 34 years together. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by sons Tim (Sue) Townsend of Greenback, Tennessee, Rex (Margie) Townsend of Indianapolis, daughter Tracey (Tony) Collins and son Michael (Marie) Morgan of Alexandria. Also surviving are grandchildren Neal, Brent, Clint, and Brandy Townsend; Brittney, Drew and Spencer Collins; Michael and Carolyn Morgan, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Also surviving him are 3 special four-legged companions, Emma, Sassy and Midnight. Preceeding him in death were parents Earl “Cotton” and Mildred (Morgan) Townsend, first wife Barbara (Gross), siblings Margaret (Wayne) Fox, Roberta (Jack) Fuller, Helen (Bill) Kubly and Charles “Punk” (Judy) Townsend. Special thanks to Alexandria EMS, Drs. Mares, Molina, PA Brandon Aiman, Dr. Milligan, Dr. Eddy, and Dr. Anthony Hill, and Dr. Emily Musgrave. Additionally, the family thanks the exceptional staff of St. V's Anderson ICU and home care nurse Kelly Summers. Contributions may be made to Alexandria EMS or St. Vincent Anderson's Cancer Center. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM Friday, April 8th with Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Masonic Service at 7:45 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson. Funeral Services will be at 1PM on Saturday April 9th with visitation one hour prior with Dr. Joyce Thornton officiating. Post online condolences at www.rozelle-johnson.com.
