Joan L. Carroll, 79, of Derry, NH, passed away Monday April 4, 2016 at Parkland Medical Center of Derry, after a period of declining health. She was born September 30, 1936 in Boston and was the daughter of the late Mark A. and Helen (Smith) Carroll. Ms. Carroll received her bachelor’s degree from Emmanuel College and received her Law and Doctorate of Law degrees from Boston University. She had been a resident of Derry since 1971.
Joan began her professional career with Hale & Dorr of Boston and then as a Trust Attorney with State Street Bank and Trust. Ms. Carroll had a private law practice for over 40 years. She loved to travel and visited many locations around the world. She had been a longtime supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a Boston Opera Society member.
Members of the family include her brother and his wife, Donald and Ann Carroll of Derry, a niece and her husband, Laura and Lee Lierz of Colorado, a nephew and his wife, Donald C. and Jennifer Carroll of Florida; as well as her great nephew Harrison, and great nieces, Celine and Helen.
Calling hours were held Friday, April 8, 2016 from 6 to 8pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, April 9th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 16 Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery in Londonderry.
