Obituary

AVON, CT – Athena (Moustakis) Lefcofrides, 89, of Avon, Connecticut and a former longtime resident of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, April 2, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at her home in Avon surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving daughter, Maria. She was born in Springfield on March 26, 1927, a beloved daughter of the late George E. Moustakis and Mary A. (Touragoglou) Moustakis. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and lived in Springfield for many years. After her marriage, she lived in New York before moving to Avon, Connecticut in May of 1990. She was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and during her younger years, sang in the Cathedral Choir. She was a former member of the Greek American Progressive Association (GAPA) and while living in New York, she was a member of the North Hempstead Country Club. Most of all, she was a loving wife and mother who was always ready to assist her family and her many friends who sought her loving kindness and gentle advice. In addition to her wonderful generosity, Tina was a fabulous cook and enjoyed making many delicious meals for her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Nicholas Lefcofrides who was Called Home on May 2, 1990. She leaves her loving daughter and best friend, Maria Strano of Avon, CT with whom she lived; and her many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving brother and sister-in-law, John Moustakis and his wife, Elizabeth. Athena will Lie in Repose on Friday morning, April 8, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
