Abington – Robert Charles Craig of Abington passed away peacefully after a period of failing health on March 31, 2016 at the age of 95. He was married for 62 years to the late Lucile G. (Andrews) Craig.
Bob was born in Brockton to Charles and Edna (Buker) Craig. He graduated from Abington High School in 1938.
During World War II, he served in the Coast Guard in Portland, Maine.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Abington for over 80 years and was a respected lay leader locally and across Massachusetts. He was a member and past President of the Boston Baptist Social Union.
Bob was noted for his generosity to others and spent much of his time in retirement helping others through organizations such as Sharing, Inc. and St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry as well as his church.
Bob served on the Abington Finance Committee and the Police Station Building Committee. He owned H.L. Stearns Desk Company in Boston for 40 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Anne E. and husband Tony Manna of Hanover and Shirley J. and husband Tom Cornwell of Grain Valley, MO; his grandson, Robert and wife Krista Manna, and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Lorenzo Manna all of Abington; his granddaughter Kari and husband Steve Allen, and great-grandchildren, Ben and Gabby Allen all of Blue Springs, MO. He was predeceased by his sister E. Hope Fearing, brother Parker E. Craig, brother-in-law Herbert Fearing and nephew Carl Craig. Other survivors include his sister-in-law Edythe L. Craig of NH, one niece, four nephews and many other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Abington, Rtes. 58 & 139, on Saturday April 9 at 11:00 AM. Visitation at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, Friday April 8 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Interment will be private.
