Obituary

HYANNIS__Mary G. (Cairns) Kane, 96, of 320 Castlewood Circle, formerly of 16 Samoset Rd, Worcester, died Friday July 1 in Essex Pavilion, 876 Falmouth Rd. Her husband, Joseph F. Kane died in 1967.

She leaves a son, John P. Kane of Centerville; two daughters, Judith R. Sammis of Pocasset and Catherine A. Kane of Hyannis; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A son, Robert S. Kane of Troy Vermont died in 1999. Another son, Jerome P. Kane of Worcester died in 1961. She was also predeceased by two brothers, John F. Cairns and Frederick Cairns. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of James F. and Mary G. (Finneran) Cairns and lived there until moving to Hyannis in 2001.

Mrs. Kane was an English Teacher 23 years for the Town of Auburn and taught at the Junior High School. She retired in 1972. She was a 50 year member of St. Stephen’s Church, Worcester and was a member of the Auburn Teachers Association, the Southern Worcester County Teachers Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association. Mary was a 1925 graduate of North High School, Worcester and graduated from Worcester State Teachers College in 1929. She also received her Masters degree in Education from Worcester State Teachers College.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday July 6 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 am in St. Stephens Church, 357 Grafton St, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday July 5 from 5 to 8 pm.
