Plymouth - Gunnar A. Robertson, Sr., 97, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, in the Golden Living Center of Plymouth. His wife of 53 years, Mildred F. (Johnson) Robertson died in 2001. He leaves 4 sons and 3 daughters, Gunnar A. Robertson, Jr., and his wife Elizabeth of Worcester, Carl E. Robertson and his husband Ed Menard of North Brookfield, Linda S. Sealey and her husband Edward of Plymouth, Susan J. Yess and her husband Vincent "Buddy" of Worcester, Mark S. Robertson and his wife Cindy of Akron, Ohio, Dale E. Robertson of Worcester, and Cindy L. Robertson and her partner Bob Cursi of Shrewsbury; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Fisher and 2 brothers, John and Francis Robertson.
Gunnar was born in Brooklyn, New York, son of Swedish immigrants, Sigrid Olivia (Olson) and Charles Robertson. Every summer he attended the Salvation Army Star Lake Camp in New Jersey. In his early 20's, Gunnar was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer. His appointments included the Worcester Belmont Street Corps, Greendale Corps, Boston Corps, and the McKeesport, PA Corps. Gunnar and Mildred were married at the Belmont Street Campgrounds. He regularly attended the Scandinavian Congress. Gunnar worked at Sprague Electric for more than 30 years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Worcester. He enjoyed his daily cup of coffee while reading the newspaper cover to cover.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8. Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester from 8:30-10:30am. The funeral service will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street, Worcester at 11:00 am. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery, 9 Island Road, Worcester.
