Richard Allen Wilkerson, age 82, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born August 28, 1933 in Bellamy, AL to the late John and Alene Ward Wilkerson.
Richard was a member of Yalobusha Primitive Baptist Church in Coffeeville, MS and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. Richard was a great cook and loved cooking for others; rotisserie chicken was one of his many specialties. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 4, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Elder James Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Coffeeville City Cemetery with John Roy Wilkerson, Richard Wilkerson, Jr., Shawn Wilkerson, John Wilkerson, Jr., Tyler Wortham and Tyler Wortham III serving as pallbearers. Dave Hovey, Wayne Coleman, Keith Canterbury and George Harrison will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Richard is survived by his wife of 35 years, Georgia Wortham Wilkerson of Coffeeville, MS; two daughters, Lisa (Tim) Hassard of Roswell, GA and Karyn Luster of Auburn, AL; two sons, John Roy (Lorraine) Wilkerson of Demopolis, AL and Richard (Cindy) Wilkerson, Jr. of West Blocton, AL; his brother, Gene (Eloise) Wilkerson of Demopolis, AL; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Wilkerson and William “Bill” Wilkerson.
