Walter J. Adams, Jr., age 88, of South Weymouth, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016, with his family by his side.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife Dympna T. Adams (Rice), and his children, Anthony Adams and his wife Kelly, and Cheryl Johnson and her husband Joshua. He also leaves his grandchildren, Sienna, Judah, and Fynn. He was the son of the late Walter J. Adams and Nellie Adams (Rullis), and the brother of the late Ellen (Romans), Marie (Ré), Norman, and Joan (Backoff).
Walter grew up on Ellsworth St in Dorchester, studied aviation technology at Boston Trade School, and served as Seaman second class on board the USS Vogelgesang. He gained a degree in civil engineering from Lowell Tech, and worked for many years as the principal construction engineer for the Boston Water and Sewer Commission. An avid fisherman, he loved spending time surf-casting off Cape Cod, striper fishing and lobstering with his brother, raking for quahogs in Eastham, or just watching fishing boats unloading their catch in the harbor. He also loved bowling, greyhound racing, cribbage, his garden, his home, and his family. He was a loving husband for 56 years, and a devoted father of two children, a grandfather to three, and an uncle to ten nieces and a nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visiting hours for Walter on Tuesday, April 5, from 4–8 at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Square) in South Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6 for a celebration of life prior to the funeral mass at St Francis Xavier Church in South Weymouth at 11:00 a.m. Walter will be interred privately at Bourne National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you consider donating to the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
