Leo M. DeFreitas, age 80, of Woburn formerly of East Boston passed away peacefully, Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Winchester Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Nancy M. (Cierri) DeFreitas, together sharing nearly 48 years of marriage. Born in Boston he was on of eight children of the late John and Barbara (Fernandes) DeFreitas.
Leo was raised and educated in East Boston and was a Woburn resident for almost 50 years. He worked for many years prior to his retirement as a foreman in the construction industry and was a member of the Laborer's Union Local 22. Leo will fondly be rememberd for his kindness and his big heart. He cherished his family and loved spending time with is many nieces and nephews. Leo was also an avid sports fan throughout his life and enjoyed traveling, vacation cruises and spending time in Ogunquit, Maine during the summer months.
In addition to his beloved wife Nancy, Leo is survived by his sister, Julia Marie Sorrentino of East Boston, and is sadly predeceased by six siblings. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Leo will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Thursday, April 7th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
