Joao C. Ferraz, 67, of New Bedford died Thursday March 31, 2016 at Tufts Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Maria Isabel (Sousa) Ferraz.
Born in Sao Miguel, Açores, the son of the late Serafim and Rosa (Caetano) Ferraz, he moved to Fall River in 1973, and had lived in New Bedford since 1980.
Mr. Ferraz was formerly employed as a construction worker for Metro Boston and various other companies in the Boston area.
He was a member of Our Lady of Angels Band Club. An avid Benfica fan, he enjoyed animals, fishing, and working outdoors in his spare time. He especially loved spending time with his family.
He proudly served in the Portuguese Army.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Sandra, Stephanie, and Brian Ferraz, all of New Bedford; a brother, Fernando Ferraz of Fall River; three grandchildren, Aryanna, Dominique, and Ariah Ferraz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Clara Torres, Raul Ferraz, and Jose Ferraz.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 AM.
