Joan "Fitzy" (Fitzpatrick) Tanso, of Somerville, formerly of Boston's West End, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Cambridge Hospital. She was 80.
Born in Boston's West End, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Draffone) Fitzpatrick. Joan and her husband Patrick were married in 1958. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved their family to Somerville, where she lived up until her passing.
Joan was a loving, outgoing and fun woman. She loved to shop and visit with family and friends. An avid coffee drinker, you could always count on her having her regular hot coffee with milk and two sugars. Joan enjoyed card games every Sunday, in Billerica, with her family as well as playing bingo and making ceramics. She was also a loyal Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the games on television. Joan loved her family and will be remembered most for her infectious smile and kind heart.
Joan was the beloved wife of Patrick R. Tanso, Jr., with whom she shared many loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Patricia, John and Patrick Tanso, all of Somerville and the loving grandmother of Nicholas and Alex Tanso, both of Worcester. She was the dear sister of Florence Leone of Malden, Lillian Mirabella of Roslindale and John Fitzpatrick of Charlestown. Joan is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mildred Roche, Joseph Fitzpatrick, Mary DeStefano, Jean Vadala and Ralph Fitzpatrick.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Wednesday, April 6th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Benedict Church, 21 Hathorne Street, Somerville, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, in Medford.
