Obituary

WORCESTER-Maurice P. “Moe” Ryan, 89, of Worcester, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 30, 2016 with his family by his side.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Mary (Donoghue) Ryan; two daughters, Eileen Benoit of Worcester and Brenda Baskis of Fitchburg; four grandchildren, Major Keith (Katie) Benoit of Lacey, WA, Kristi (Peter) Bruwer of Leominster, Melanie Benoit of Worcester, Craig (Meghan) Baskis of Greenland, NH. He also leaves three great grandchildren, Kailynn Bruwer, and Bailey and Owen Baskis; two brothers, Jim (Nancy) Ryan of Queensland, Australia, and Tom (Veronica) Ryan of Trentham New Zealand; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Nora Lynch; three brothers, Patrick, Michael and John; his son-in-law, Daniel Benoit and an infant daughter, Ita.


He was born in Kilmeedy County Limerick, Ireland in 1926 to the late David and Ita (Lynch) Ryan and immigrated first to California in 1948. After serving his new country in the U.S. Army he settled in Worcester, where he met and married his bride. He then worked for many years at Wyman Gordon, Company, retiring in 1986.


Mr. Ryan was a longtime parishioner of St. George Church and a devout catholic. Maurice was a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was an avid New England sports fan, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He loved a good game of cards, trips to the casino, spending time with his family and listening to Irish music. Most of all he enjoyed 27 winters at Paradise Bay in Bradenton, FL. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.


The family would like to thank the staff at Saint Vincent Hospital for their kind and compassionate care over the last two weeks.


The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 2 from CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM at St. George Church, 40 Brattle Street. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours from 9:00 until 10:30 am on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Homeless Veteran Shelter, c/o Veteran’s Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
