Obituary

Vernon Lamar Exum, 76, of Adel passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Berrien Nursing Center in Nashville. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Charles Blair and Rev. Mike Bennett officiating. Mr. Exum will be laid to rest at Lakeview Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenox. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 31, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Scott Moore, Steve Moore, Jamie Exum, Nicholas Vickers, Amado “Chivo” Alonzo and Reggie Morrison will serve as pallbearers.

Born January 26, 1940 in Lanier County, Mr. Exum was the son of the late Vernon Stacey Exum and Nancy Etta Boyd Exum. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carolyn Bush Exum; a daughter, Mary Etta Exum Purvis; two brothers, James Marvin Exum and John Stacey Exum; and two sisters, Willie Marie “Peggy” Franklin and Carolyn Faye Exum Lashley. He was retired from Harvey’s Supermarket in the maintenance department and a member of Ocilla Church of God. He loved the Lord, singing, playing guitar, going to church and loved to laugh and tell jokes.

Mr. Exum is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Angela Exum of Tifton and Michael and Louise Exum of Nashville; one daughter, Alice Exum Alonzo of Eastman; one brother, Perry Jefferson “P. J.” Exum of Lynchburg, Virginia; one sister, Phyllis Darlene Exum Moore of Adel; nine grandchildren, Michael Shane Exum, Jonathan Bradley Exum, Kaylena Danielle Purvis, Stephanie Leigh Purvis, Christopher Amado Alonzo, Dontay Michael Exum, Lakeland Nathaniel Exum, Jeremiah Jackson Exum and Ally Grace Exum; several great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
